Women’s Fund of Central Indiana President Tamara Winfrey-Harris was quoted in the Indianapolis Recorder article: “Will Indiana pass the CROWN Act?”
Sponsored by a coalition of local and national advocacy groups, the CROWN Act seeks to shield largely Black hairstyles and hair textures from discrimination in dress codes in Indiana.
Winfrey-Harris: “When a company says to a Black woman that the natural, inherent texture of their hair is inappropriate and not professional, what they are really saying is they cannot show up as themselves.”
Though failing to garner a hearing in the last Indiana Statehouse session, proponents are hopeful the CROWN Act still has a chance.
