GO: Give Back
GO combines philanthropy education with charitable giving, teaching youth to make thoughtful and meaningful contributions to the community through the lens of the needs and issues facing women and girls in our community.
To participate in GO, an adult creates an endowed donor advised fund, within Women’s Fund of Central Indiana, on behalf of a child who is from birth – age 18.
When the child is in 1st – 12th grade, they participate in programming to learn about caring and sharing in an age-appropriate way.
The fund must be started with $1,000 and a commitment to reaching $10,000 on or before the child’s 18th birthday. At an age designated by the original donor, the child may begin making grants to support women and girl serving programs and organizations. Once the child turns 18, the fund legally transfers to their name which they may use for a lifetime of charitable giving. *A donor advised fund is created through a legal document which guides the acceptance and distribution policies for all gifts and grants, to be described in a fund agreement created by Women’s Fund of Central Indiana for the donor.
The GO philanthropy education curriculum focuses on five core content areas:
- Self – Understanding our needs and interests shapes what we care about and how we give.
- Community – Exploring the problems, needs and assets of a community is essential to serving it
- Money management – Philanthropy rests on solid principles of saving, spending and giving.
- Meaningful service – Hands-on involvement is an important way to show how much you care.
- Philanthropic inspiration – We learn a lot and become inspired by watching how other people give and participate in the community.
