Akilah Webster serves as Senior Director, Fundraising Research & Operations for United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI). An Indiana native, Akilah joined UWCI in 2013, where she now leads the strategy development and execution for the Fundraising & Engagement Operations division. In her role, she creates, maintains, and optimizes operations that support, guide, and enable the fundraising and engagement team to thrive and have the strongest opportunity for success. She was also named UWCI’s “Employee of the Year” in 2020.
Prior to joining UWCI, Akilah spent more than 11 years in the financial services and insurance industries, as well as a stint in media and journalism when she served as the editor-in-chief of a local magazine. Wanting to give back to her community, she made a career change and moved to the nonprofit sector.
Akilah resides in Indianapolis and is an active volunteer in her community. She has served on various committees for the Martin Center Sickle Cell Initiative and the Association for Advancement Services Professionals and was previously the board chair for The Centers of Wellness for Urban Women. She is also a member of Women of Color in Fundraising, APRA Indiana, and APRA International.
